I really, really like weddings! They are simply great fun and by a million miles the best part of my work.
Please forget memories of photographers at weddings in the past because I have a different way of going about it and the most important thing to know about how I operate is that throughout I aim to be as unobtrusive as possible. I do not dominate the day by getting in the way, interrupting proceedings, or by constantly demanding the bride and groom's valuable time for endless posed cameo shots.
During the reception and dinner I am about constantly taking pictures, sometimes mingling with the guests and at other times remaining in the background. For this reason I try and use natural light as much as possible bu using very fast prime lenses and absolutely no flash guns. This style is called reportage, which sounds very cliched, but means just that - a pictorial report. This seems to work as I am often asked by guests if I am a friend of the family and I have lost count of the number of times people have said afterwards "Thank you for being so discrete, we didn't't know you were there at all."
I am usually with you for the whole day, from the morning preparations, grooms lunch, the service, reception, dinner, speeches, cake and dancing. I work through all the phases and the timings of events are driven by you, not by me.
All this does not mean that there are no formal shots of the family groupings. These are taken properly but quickly so that the party is not interrupted for too long as can sometimes happen if these are not well planned in advance. The most important thing here is organisation and making sure that ushers are properly briefed! (sigh...).
I often only take ten minutes or so to take the private pictures of the bride and groom together. I use a suitable lull in the natural flow of the day to take these and the pictures are as natural and spontaneous as I can make them. This is a fun event for me and them and it gives them a breather away from everybody for a while. I quite often do these when dinner has been announced and guests are taking their time to get seated!
I always release the finished photos to the bride and groom and they have unrestricted use of them, normally over eight hundred! A traditional leather bound album with gold embossed names and fifty eight decently large pictures chosen by the bride and groom can also be included.
The pictures of the day are available on line here by using a passcode which is entered in the box at the top of the client page (link at the top of this page). This means that all guests and family can see the photographs wherever they are in the world. There is also a facility to order prints and email them to friends.
Please could you contact me by clicking the link at the bottom of this page.
I can supply an album, this is a traditional leather bound large book with thick card pages in red, green, blue or burgundy. The album can contain 58 prints in colour or monochrome, chosen by you not me. To see details of the type of album please click here.
To confirm a booking in my Diary, I ask for a deposit of 25% of the agreed fee for my work. I have a card machine here in the Studio. I can also take payment for prints here.
The balance for wedding fees is payable 10 days before the wedding date.
As I said at the top of the page, of all the parts of my photographic work, I enjoy taking pictures at weddings most. I do not know exactly why this is but it is probably because they are always such fun and happy times. I can think of another reason and that is I cherish the trust from the bride and groom to do a good job and to let me share their day with family and friends.
Lastly, I always think it is sad to say good bye at the end.
